Liberty Bell Delight At Daybreak
Golden larches surround Liberty Bell Mountain as a parade of ice crystals float by in the frosty morning sky. Mountain photography taken from Washington Pass.
Fine Art Mountain Photography that Inspires the Soul
Sunrise mountain photography can be adventurous any time of year, but late October, high in the Cascade Mountains, it poses some very special challenges for Washington State nature photographers like me. For one, frozen fingers don’t move very well, but sometimes you just have to take your gloves off even though it’s below 20 degrees. A little frost bite is better than dropping my best mountain photography lens! But the real challenge is convincing my wife that I’m not crazy as she waits in the cozy heated camper while I spend two hours in the freezing cold creating mountain photography art.
But of course, it’s all worth it, both for the adventure of the experience, and for the fine art mountain photography prints I’m able to create. I’ve seen a lot of clouds in my professional photography career, but the clouds in this Liberty Bell mountain photograph are truly unique. The moisture in the clouds became ice crystals and formed rows of colorful ice clouds as elegant and intricate as snowflakes.
