Sensational Second Beach Sunset

After a full day of gray skies and drizzle in the Olympic rainforest, I felt an instinct to drive two hours to the coast, chasing a whisper of sunset possibility. The beach was still dull and colorless when we arrived, but as the sun touched the horizon, it dipped below the high clouds, lighting them from below, and suddenly the entire sky ignited. For fifteen breathtaking minutes, color poured across the sky, sea, and sand, then quickly faded again into quiet silver twilight.
