Turquoise Waves Crash on Washington's Coast

On the final afternoon of a four-day backpacking trip to Shi Shi Beach (pronounced shy-shy), we were running late for the long trip home when the ocean stopped me in my tracks. The sunlight was illuminating each rolling wave a clear turquoise unlike anything I’d seen, while the blue sky reflected on the surface. I told my wife we’d have to be even later, then spent half an hour completely lost in photographing those radiant waves, nature’s parting masterpiece from one of Washington’s wildest shores.
