I took this forest sunbeam photograph on our second trip to the Ozette Triangle on the Olympic Peninsula coast in 2020. We had a couple of nice hours on our July trip before the clouds rolled in and rained us out. Determined to see and explore this stretch of the Olympic Coast, and to take some Olympic beach and rainforest photography, we took this second trip at the end of September. Two weeks of storms earlier in the month had piled mass amounts of seaweed on the beaches which ruined the photo opportunities there, so I decided to focus on making fine art forest photography wall art instead.
What a great twist of fate! The mist pouring into the forest was thick, and the cloudless sky let the full power of the sun fully illuminate this forest art photograph. After exploring the forest for over and hour, I came upon this location. It was a classic Pacific Northwest forest scene with the ground covered in moss and this huge salal plant in the foreground. Everything about this forest photography setting is a prefect reflection of the beauty of Washington State.
