Skagit Snow Geese Taking Flight
Massive flocks of snow geese congregate on Fir Island in the Skagit Valley.
Washington State Wildlife Photography
Born on the tundra of Wrangle Island in the Arctic Ocean north of Russia, these wonderous waterfowl flock to Skagit Valley in the winter in massive flocks. It’s super fun for me to go on a “wild goose chase” to find the flocks and create fine art wildlife bird photography. On this wildlife photography adventure, it took me most of the day to track this flock down, but I was rewarded by this beautiful lighting when I found them. You can watch the whole story in this Wild Goose Chase video: https://youtu.be/hiJQ4VPjnbU
The warm color and stark contrast of this fine art wild bird wall art is caused by the sun being low in the sky behind me and the dark Cascade Mountains being far in the distance, capped with clouds and out of direct sun. The pattern of the snow geese as they take flight reminds me of a very different type of fine art, the M. C. Escher fine art paintings where the squares of farmland transform into flocks of geese.
