Bellingham: From Downtown Studio to Grand Fairhaven Gallery

2003–2018

Peter James began welcoming visitors to his photography studio on Holly Street in Downtown Bellingham in 2003. The space served as both a working photography studio and a place to exhibit his fine art, hosting art walks, exhibitions, and community events that introduced visitors to his growing collection of nature photography.

Over the next 15 years, the downtown location evolved into the Peter James Photography Gallery, establishing the foundation for a more immersive fine art experience.

2018–2026

In August 2018, Peter expanded into a magnificent new gallery in the Orca Building in Bellingham's historic Fairhaven district. This spacious, beautifully designed gallery allowed his photography to be experienced on an entirely new scale, with monumental metal prints transforming the walls into windows to the wild.

Visitors encountered the extraordinary diversity of Washington's wilderness, from the snow-covered peaks of the North Cascades to the rugged Pacific coastline, ancient forests, and luminous alpine lakes.

The Fairhaven gallery became a destination for nature lovers, art collectors, and visitors from around the world. It was a place to slow down, experience the remarkable depth and clarity of the artwork, meet Peter, and discover how the beauty of wilderness could become part of everyday life.

Together, the downtown studio and Fairhaven gallery represented 23 years of artistic growth, community connection, and a shared appreciation for the extraordinary beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Leavenworth: Wilderness in the Heart of the Bavarian Village

Through August 2026

Located on Front Street in the heart of Leavenworth's Bavarian themed village, the Peter James Photography Gallery offered an immersive encounter with the wild landscapes surrounding this beloved mountain destination.

Within its spacious gallery rooms, sweeping photographs of the Cascades, Olympic Peninsula, alpine wilderness, and Pacific Northwest coast came alive in brilliant color and extraordinary scale.

Visitors wandered among towering mountain panoramas, luminous waterfalls, tranquil forests, and expansive coastal scenes, discovering the feeling of standing before nature's majesty.

One of the gallery's most distinctive features was its private collector's balcony, overlooking the Wenatchee River and the surrounding mountains. It offered a beautiful connection between the landscapes outside and the artwork within, and a memorable place to celebrate bringing a piece of that beauty home.

For countless visitors, what began as a casual stop during a Leavenworth vacation became a lasting relationship with the artwork, the artist, and the landscapes they loved.

Art That Must Be Experienced

The legacy galleries demonstrated something extraordinary about Peter's photography: its impact grows as the artwork approaches the scale of the landscapes themselves.

Photographs captured with exceptional clarity and printed on luminous aluminum become immersive experiences, revealing subtle textures, radiant colors, and remarkable details that are easily missed on a smaller screen.

A mountain landscape becomes an invitation to explore. A sunlit forest brings warmth and tranquility into a room. A sweeping coastal panorama opens an entire wall to the beauty of the natural world.

These are more than photographs to admire. They are enduring works of art created to bring daily inspiration, peace, and wonder into the places where people live and work.

The Gallery Without Boundaries

Today, the legacy continues to grow.

Peter's lifelong passion for exploration is taking him into new landscapes around the globe, discovering fresh inspiration and creating new artwork to share with his growing community of nature lovers and collectors.

Through the online gallery, personal consultations, behind-the-scenes adventures, and a network of artwork viewing locations, the connection between artist, artwork, and collector is becoming more accessible and personal than ever.

The gallery experience is no longer defined by a single location. The invitation remains the same: discover the beauty of nature, experience the artwork, and bring that wonder into your everyday life.
