Glassy Lake Whatcom Reflections

Lake Whatcom Photography - From Sunrise to Sunset
 
Summertime is sheer delight on Lake Whatcom, and I very much enjoy taking my family boating there. We almost always launch from the South Bay boat launch where we immediately enjoy the incredible beauty of Stuart Mountain and Lookout Mountain’s forested slopes angling skyward directly from the lake, with only a handful of small cabins around the lake’s edge. This is the better side of the lake for capturing fine art Lake Whatcom photography, but most of the time we are there, we are simply enjoying the beauty and refreshment of the expansive lake. 
 
However, when the sun gets low in the sky and the clouds light up, my job as a Bellingham nature photographer kicks in, and I do my best to navigate to the best location to capture fine art Lake Whatcom photos. On this evening, I took us to this spot near Camp Firwood to create this picture of Lake Whatcom with the mountain to the left and Reveille Island to the right. My daughter adjusted our position with a paddle to keep us in the spot where the water was glassy, as I hung my camera overboard nearly to water level to get the best reflections on Lake Whatcom.
