Rosario Beach Heron Silhouette

Just as he wished his composition had a stronger subject, a great blue heron landed directly in front of Peter’s camera at Rosario Beach in Deception Pass State Park.

As the setting sun was turning the sky and the sea gold, I hurried along the shore of Rialto Beach in Deception Pass State Park, trying to find the best fine art photography composition. I settled on this spot, but the heron had not arrived yet, and I thought to myself “this is such classic Pacific Northwest scenery, but it doesn’t have a strong enough subject.” Just after thinking this, as if on cue, this majestic great blue heron flew into the center of my PNW landscape photograph and pretty much posed for this wildlife photography print.
 
As a Pacific Northwest nature and wildlife photographer, I’ve learned to tune in and listed to the voice of nature when it guides me where to be and what to create fine art photography of. Was it me that called the heron in, or was it nature itself that called us both there at the same time? I believe it was both, the combination of my intention to share the divine beauty of nature in my landscape and wildlife photography wall art, and nature’s desire to be appreciated and to teach us the value and richness of life.
